About the role:
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Senior Backend Developer to join our innovative AI/ML team. At Syndio, were not just using AI; were pushing the boundaries of whats possible with it. Youll be immersed in a cutting-edge environment where were leveraging generative AI to revolutionize how companies approach pay transparency and pay reporting. This involves building the core infrastructure for our AI-powered products, including a sophisticated chat application that will transform how users interact with our platform.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Backend Developer with a solid foundation in cloud technologies and a passion for AI/ML to contribute to a rapidly evolving field. Youll have the chance to work with the latest generative AI tools, collaborate with experienced data scientists, and help shape the future of workplace equity.
Why this job is exciting:
- Design, develop, and deploy robust and scalable backend systems in Python to support our AI/ML initiatives.
- Integrate with and optimize cutting-edge generative AI models and LLMs to create innovative solutions for pay transparency and pay reporting.
- Design and develop the backend infrastructure for our AI-powered REST APIs and chat applications (using WebSockets).
- Ensure the performance, security, and reliability of our AI/ML systems in a cloud environment.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability using tools like Splunk or Datadog.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists and frontend engineers to deliver seamless and impactful user experiences.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automated workflows.
Requirements:
- Strong experience with Python and Flask framework.
- Experience building and deploying applications on GCP (Google Cloud Platform).
- Experience with Docker, Github, etc.
- Solid understanding of cloud technologies and infrastructure.
- Proficiency with WebSockets for real-time communication in chat applications.
- Experience with observability tools like Splunk or Datadog.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and automated workflows.
- Some experience with LLMs, even if its just experimenting and using them.
Nice to have:
- Frontend development experience (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
- Experience with Go programming language.
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Firestore).

- 💰 Competitive Compensation. For this role our base salary is targeted at $140-160k CAD. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise.

Role progression:
- Month 1: Immediate Impact
From day one, youll be immersed in our platform, infrastructure, and codebase. We expect a rapid learning curve and the ability to quickly contribute. A key deliverable for your first month will be deploying a feature that demonstrates your grasp of our systems and your ability to execute effectively. - Month 2: Proactive Contribution
Youll move beyond the initial learning phase and take a proactive role in identifying opportunities for improvement. This will involve deep dives into our endpoints, independent problem-solving, and a demonstrated ability to iterate and enhance our product. - Month 3: Driving Innovation
By the third month, youll be a fully integrated member of our AI team, operating at full capacity. This includes active participation in technical discussions, independent execution of complex tasks, and the ability to propose and implement innovative technical solutions.
