A role on the Engineering & Optimization team means being relentlessly focused on how we can optimize our Food Supply Chain (FSC) to become more cost effective and improve the guest experience. Our teams work with the agility our mission requires, and we constantly come together to implement new processes in record time. We’re looking for exceptional leaders who are proactive, creative, independent, innovative, risk-savvy and comfortable working in varying degrees of ambiguity. You will work cross-functionally with experts from across F&B, Global Supply Chain & Logistics (GSCL), Target Technology Services (TTS) and Stores to support co-creation of solutions to reduce labor cost, increase capacity, and improve speed and reliability for replenishment & fulfillment activities. As a Director Industrial Engineering for Food Supply Chain, you will serve as the leader of our IE program—overseeing a high-performing team of Sr. Industrial Engineers embedded across our Food Distribution Center (FDC) network, and work alongside business partners to drive the development and execution of programs that support an environment of continuous improvement and ensure the successful realization of enterprise strategy, business, financial, and operational outcomes. You’ll foster a strong, inclusive team culture rooted in accountability, development, and recognition—ensuring your team remains connected and empowered despite geographic distance. You will be responsible for partnering with senior leaders to identify and develop opportunities that can address gaps in competencies and tactics and ultimately achieve the desired performance. In addition, you will deploy systematic methodology for program management to drive performance acceleration across the enterprise and serve as an influential partner to the business to drive top and bottom-line impact for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for Target’s Engineered Labor Standards (ELS) and Labor Management System (LMS) program across the FDC network—including the implementation of management systems, productivity standards, and network-wide governance for continuous improvement.
- Manage governance process for IE initiatives, inclusive of any new projects impacting budget, resources, and priorities. Develop, manage, and validate compliance with project management standards, policies, methods, and templates.
- Determine productivity & capacity expectations, and conduct gap analysis. Identify, prioritize, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement. Determine root cause and create/maintain standard work documentation.
- Provide thought leadership in partnership with business owners to jointly define program objectives, processes, and success measures. Coach industrial engineers and operations leadership through execution phases to achieve program maturity and sustainability.
- Align stakeholders across F&B, GSCL, Stores, and TTS. Drive transparency and alignment on initiative prioritization, tollgates, and success metrics.

About you:
- 7 or more years of progressive experience in Industrial Engineering, with expertise in Engineered Labor Standards, labor planning, and productivity management in large-scale supply chain or distribution environments.
- Ability to connect and build relationships across leaders and organizations. Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact with and influence peers, key stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Strong problem solving, synthesizing, and analytical skills. Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other standard methodologies.
- Experience partnering with technology teams to evolve labor management systems, integrate process standards, and ensure data integrity across engineering and operational systems.
- Ability to set and communicate strategic direction of high impact, cross-functional programs while securing support and advocacy from leaders and partner teams.
- Exceptional organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty.
- Experience leading geographically distributed technical teams.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
