Job Description

Telstra Fleet are responsible for the full lifecycle management of Telstra’s broad range of fleet assets ranging from Passenger and Light Commercial vehicles through to Trucks, Trailers, Bulldozers and Excavators. You will play a crucial role in delivering safe, high-quality, and market-leading fleet assets to various stakeholders across the business.

As a Fleet Engineering and Safety Senior Lead, your responsibilities will include providing compliance sign-off for engineering solutions and drawings provided by Telstra’s Fleet Management Organisation (FMO) or third-party providers, ensuring they meet both Telstra and regulatory standards. You will actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance the safety and efficiency of Telstra’s fleet through technological advancements or operational improvements. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with vehicle OEMs, aftermarket accessory providers, body builders and fit-out suppliers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of fleet assets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engage with key Telstra Business Unit principals and drivers to understand their requirements and gather feedback for engineering solutions.
  • Manage and liaise with Telstra’s Fleet Management Organisation (FMO), aftermarket accessory providers, body builders and vehicle manufacturers to develop and implement engineering solutions.
  • Conduct compliance audits and provide sign-off on behalf of Telstra for all vehicle fit-outs, fleet products, and other engineering specifications completed internally or by third-party providers, ensuring they meet Telstra and regulatory standards.
  • Proactively review and update Telstra’s engineering standards based on industry trends, global best practices, and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Initiate proactive vehicle hazard and risk assessments, provide safety documentation, and drive improvement programs to enhance fleet safety.
  • Investigate repetitive faults, take feedback from drivers, and initiate vehicle recall decisions on behalf of Telstra in the event of assessed risks to driver and vehicle safety.
  • Conduct on-site vehicle inspections and approve prototypes to ensure they meet safety and performance standards

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • An Engineering degree with proven practical experience
  • Contribution to developing strategy and maintaining Telstra’s fleet vehicle roadmap
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects simply and effectively, tailoring key messages for a broad and varied range of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in translating data and feedback into business opportunities for improvement.
  • Some experience in project management or driving change initiatives to completion
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of managing a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving and influencing skills, with strong commercial acumen
  • Effective at influencing people, with a focus on performance, operational improvement, change management, and project execution
