As part of People, Culture and Communications (PC&C), your mission will be to identify opportunities to uplift and embed accessible design and technology to enhance workforce experience.  You will do this in partnership with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team and the Digital Accessibility team who are dedicated and driven to implementing meaningful and systemic change.

About the role

  • We are looking for a Senior Accessibility Specialist – DEI who knows a lot about making things easy for People with Disability. This person will help make sure that everyone who works at Telstra can use our tools and systems and navigate processes without any problems. Using your technical skills and experience, you will check if our tools follow the rules (conduct an internal audit) and make suggestions on the changes required if they dont (develop an action plan). Our aim is to make Telstra an accessible place to work for everyone!

Important note: the role will be a 6-months fixed term contract.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Accessibility Specialist – DEI you will draw on your experience living with disability and/or working in the disability sector:  

  • Complete an audit by identifying accessibility opportunities to embed into our people processes, tools, systems and policies.
  • Create an action plan    based on findings from accessibility audit.
  • Work with our data and analytics team to analyse quantitative and qualitative workforce data, translating data into insights that will shape initiatives and recommendations.
  • Leverage internal and external data, relationships and partnerships to influence and shape thinking, strategy and evidence-based solutions.

About You

We are specifically seeking applicants who are living with disability and/or working in the disability sector:

You will demonstrate: 

  • Understanding of the systemic barriers and inclusion challenges faced by people with disabilities, coupled with the ability to develop effective initiatives to overcome these obstacles
  • Proficiency in person-first language and communication, demonstrating an ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences and senior stakeholders
  • Expertise in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508 compliance, and other pertinent accessibility standards, ensuring digital content meets accessibility requirements
  • Understanding of Global DEI appliable ratings scales across the Technology Industry (i.e. Aust/NZ, Asia, Americas, etc)
  • Experience with a wide range of assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnifiers, and voice recognition software
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI principles
  • Effective program or project management capabilities
  • Strong collaboration skills
