The Simulations Team is responsible for software engineering and operations of large-scale software infrastructure used in Software-in-the-Loop and Processor-in-the-Loop simulations of Tesla vehicles at both the system and component levels. This large-scale infrastructure simulates billions of miles of vehicle driving each day.
In this role you will have the opportunity to lead major initiatives such as bringing up the new generation of Processor-in-the-Loop cluster infrastructure, Bazel/Buck Remote Execution clusters, introduce distributed observability at scale and leading infrastructure rollout procedures on top of Kubernetes and Tesla’s internal orchestration systems.
Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers who are committed to building the most robust and reliable systems using cutting-edge software development tools and practices. You will solve some of the most ambiguous and challenging problems in the embedded software space, helping to revolutionize the way the world produces electric vehicles.
- Lead the bring-up of major software infrastructure initiatives related to running Software-in-the-Loop simulations at scale
- Lead the bring-up of Bazel Remote Execution and Content Addressable Storage platforms
- Design and implement observability infrastructure across multiple distributed systems, enabling tracing, monitoring, metrics collection, and real-time event streaming
- Influence architectural decisions of internal software engineering with intention of achieving scalable, cloud-first service architecture compatible with Kubernetes
- Fully automate software release roll-out processes to Kubernetes and other orchestration technologies, ensuring that these processes are fully self-sufficient and require no manual intervention
- 3+ years of relevant technical experience
- Experience with Remote Execution in build systems using Bazel
- Experienced with Linux internals with the focus on performance profiling of Linux filesystems, networking and I/O
- Advanced experience with Kubernetes, including setting up Control Planes, setting up robust deployment operations, using k8s operators, and event-based scaling
- Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Rust, Go, and/or C++
- Experience in data-driven capacity planning, within both physical data centers and Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure)
- Troubleshooting and full-cycle incident response, including mitigation, correction, and prevention
- Smart but humble, with a bias for action and for enabling others’ success
- Experience building and maintaining Simulation Infrastructure is a plus
