About Global Risk, Security & Resilience
The Global Risk, Security and Resilience team manages the companys operational risks and advises the business on other commercial, strategic or reputational challenges that may arise. With functions covering audits & investigations, business resilience (incident and crisis management, business continuity), digital risk, event security, global operations & insights, health, safety & wellness, high risk & newsroom safety and workplace security, the department covers a diverse technical portfolio leveraged to ensure risks are reasonably managed, security threats addressed and disruptions limited in support of Dow Jones strategic goals.
About the Role
We are adding a Senior Director, Global Operations & Insights to our team based at our headquarters in New York. This is a hybrid role with travel possible up to 20% of the year throughout the companys global portfolio and areas of interest - 55 sites across 30 countries - and business activities around the world. You will be in a leadership position playing a critical role in driving departmental strategy and priorities with a functional portfolio - department administration, global operations and critical insights. Managing a globally dispersed team of regional risk and security generalists and support staff, working collaboratively with colleagues and other partners, and reporting to the global lead for risk and resilience, you will be responsible for innovative services to deliver a range of functional practices aligned with Dow Jones core business, brand, and cultural needs. You will report to the SVP of Risk and Business Continuity.
You Will:
- Help ensure Dow Jones employees, contractors, assets, property and business operations are safe from current and emerging threats and actively promote an innovative approach toward risk, think creatively and drive contemporary solutions.
- Help define, hone and promote departmental strategy, priorities, governance and execution, KPI development and reporting and resource management - especially enabling technologies. This role is a key partner of the global head of risk, security and resilience in day-to-day operations and the larger business cycle.
- Forge exceptional relationships with people across the company and its publications; provide a source of sound judgement, advice and counsel to colleagues, staff and decision makers on risk, security and operational challenges.
- Identify, engage, develop, and retain superior talent. Maintain a culture consistent with Dow Jones values and bring out the best in people, allowing them to perform at the highest possible level.
- Oversee a global team of strong regional risk and security managers (in the Americas, EMEA and APAC) and support staff delivering departmental functions; operational support, workplace security, high risk and newsroom safety, event security, business resilience, audits and investigations and health, safety and wellness.
- Play a key role in supporting critical incident and crisis intervention through capable issue management, coordination, information provision and problem-solving. This role must be capable of crisis management.
- Participate and promote Dow Jones in industry working groups and follow trends in risk management as they relate to the media, journalism, corporate security, geopolitics, best practice, available technologies and service providers.
- Maintain external relationships and a global information management capability that best serves the requirements of the business considering horizon/emerging and current threats and the organizations ability to respond to risks on an ongoing basis.
- Provide critical liaison, needs management and service oversight to ensure Dow Jones operations are excellently supported by global security operations center services, internal or external.
- Ensure the Travel Risk Management (TRM) program is delivered appropriately and improved on an ongoing basis and oversee department-supporting operations and programs; specialized equipment management and administration (finance, sourcing, IT support, etc.)
You Have:
- Solid experience in a risk or security role at a media, publishing or content organization - this is a visible role with a critical and far reaching remit in a large complex organization with unique challenges.
- 15+ years of proven experience in global corporate and/or media risk and security management with at least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role.
- Bachelors degree and/or relevant work experience.
- Experience working in support of geographically diffuse, complex, and intermittently high-tempo global operations in a range of environments facing a broad range of risks.
- Highly effective leadership and management skills. Able to excite and get the best work from a diverse team across time zones.
- An ability to think critically through the intricacies of complex situations, with a keen ability for collaboration, persuasion, negotiation and detail provision.
- A deep understanding of risk management and physical security strategies, policies, principles, procedures, and standards.
- An interest in global events with a good understanding of how social, political, environmental, economic and conflict dynamics can affect enterprise risk.
- A practical understanding of the intelligence cycle; collecting the needs of information users, providing insights in response, and managing the ecosystem of collection, analysis and feedback.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you must be able to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for senior leaders and decision-makers.
- A demonstrated ability to plan in a clear and structured manner, set objectives and milestones and deliver impactful results (perform program and project management).
- Advanced degree (MA, JD)- preferred.
- Experience working overseas and in challenging, diverse or unfamiliar environments -preferred.
- A willingness to work sometimes irregular hours, weekends and/or on-call, as required (with appropriate scheduled consideration for downtime and personal schedule preferences)- preferred.
