True Anomaly
A new space race has begun. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build innovative technology that solves the next generation of engineering, manufacturing, and operational challenges for space security and sustainability.
OUR MISSION
The peaceful use of space is essential for continued prosperity on Earth—from communications and finance to navigation and logistics. True Anomaly builds innovative technology at the intersection of spacecraft, software, and AI to enhance the capabilities of the U.S., its allies, and commercial partners. We safeguard global security by ensuring space access and sustainability for all.
OUR VALUES
- Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity
- What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
- It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together
YOUR MISSION
Software is the central nervous system for True Anomaly’s engineering and product thesis. Software bridges the gap between military objectives, theoretical astrodynamics and the human and autonomous control of spacecraft and ground systems in time and space. True Anomaly is seeking a highly-experienced senior software engineer to lead development of our distributed spacecraft ground control system.
You do not need to have experience building space ground systems or experience in aerospace. You’ll have ownership of challenging, greenfield problems and a chance to fundamentally impact the outcome of future conflict (and the future of the company), all while enjoying world-class benefits including platinum healthcare, flexible work hours/location, highly competitive compensation and a generous stock options package.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Design and develop the architecture of complex software systems for mission planning in space battle management, incorporating real-time data processing and visualization using Elixir.
- Conduct performance analysis and optimization of software systems to ensure scalability, reliability and efficiency under high-load conditions typical of real-time space simulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including aerospace engineers, game designers, and algorithm engineers to integrate autonomous decision-making algorithms into wargaming simulations.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and sprint planning sessions to maintain high standards of software quality and adherence to project timelines.
- Contribute to research and development initiatives aimed at advancing the state-of-the-art in autonomous space systems and their applications in military and gaming contexts.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in areas/fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
- 5-7 years of software development experience
- Proven experience developing resilient and fault-tolerant architecture
- Demonstrated leadership ability, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and aptitude for working across disciplines
- Enjoys debugging and repairing live systems
- Experience with distributed systems
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and detailed requirements
- Capable of solving complex technical problems with little oversight
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Functional programming in languages like Elixir, Erlang, Clojure, Haskell or Rust
- Deep understanding of Elixir and OTP including BEAM scheduling, GenServers, run queues, and pg or the Actor model
- Experience with OAuth2 and role-based access controls
- Database experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL
- Experience with monitoring and tracing in a distributed system
- Experience working with real-time or game engine backends
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary: $110,000-$145,000 for Software Engineer II; $140,000-$190,000 for Senior Software Engineer
- Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave
- Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience
