Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field and four (4) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 7 (Salaried).

Position Description:

This mid-level network engineering position with the University of Louisvilles ITS Network & Telecom department provides support for the operation, administration and management of highly complex university networks and services used by all faculty, staff and students.  This position requires knowledge and experience with the variety of network equipment and services used in the university.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as a member of the Network Management Team to implement, configure, monitor and manage the equipment comprising university’s campus and remote site networks, including routers, switches, wireless access points, Internet and Internet2 services, and related systems (such as IP addressing, DNS and DHCP).

  • Provide support for configuration and administration of network-related applications such as VoIP phone system, access to cloud services, guest portal, and wireless on-boarding.

  • Assist with network activities during scheduled projects and maintenance windows (some of which may fall outside normal business hours).

  • Assist with resolving trouble tickets and fulfilling service requests as needed for network issues such as outages or problems with connectivity and performance.

  • Assist with maintaining and improving network documentation.

  • Expand knowledge and experience through training, self-study, certifications and professional development activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with physical networking and campus infrastructure equipment desired

  • Network certifications desired Experience with Cisco iOS desired

  • Experience with scripting and programming desired

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet multiple, competing deadlines.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.

  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversight.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
