The Team
Upstart’s Security Operations team is passionate in bringing progressive approaches in securing our products. We believe that security should empower innovation, move at the speed of business, and have secure by design as core principles. Our team’s mission is to ensure the safety of our core product platforms, enterprise, and manage threats to Upstart. We approach our efforts through automation, strong collaboration with our partner teams, and maintaining a positive experience for Upstarters.
As a Senior Enterprise Security Engineer at Upstart, you will partner with IT engineering teams and other key stakeholders to shape and manage the security of internal information systems and infrastructure used by Upstarters. You will develop and manage controls to secure our endpoints, end user networks, enterprise applications, business critical solutions, and beyond. You will partner closely with our IT teams and other technical stakeholders to ensure our environment is configured securely
How you’ll make an impact:
- Evaluate, roll out, and develop data loss prevention solutions across the enterprise
- Improve controls to take advantage of next-gen opportunities, such as access gateways
- Develop progressive sharing controls that move at the speed of business while keeping our enterprise data safe
- Create a sustainable enterprise environment that maintains zero-trust principles with a positive user experience
- Evangelize and educate Upstarters on security best practices in maintaining a safe environment
- Identify and remediate enterprise vulnerabilities, adhering to best practices for data security
- Contribute to our security roadmap by staying up to date on latest security threats and recommending security posture improvements
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years in an Security Engineering role focused on solving enterprise-scale problems
- Experience with endpoint, enterprise network, enterprise data, and SaaS security controls
- Experience with Identity & Access Management for the enterprise (Lifecycle Management, Authentication, & Authorization)
- Intermediate or advanced proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash, etc)
- Internal Application Development experience
- AWS experience
- Zero Trust experience (Access Gateways, VPN replacement technology, Isolated Browsers)
Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, San Mateo, Columbus, Austin
Time Zone Requirements - This team operates across all U.S. time zones.
Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 3 days per quarter at an Upstart office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
