Director of Data Governance and Management 8 Locations

We are seeking a Director of Data Governance and Management to establish and own the function within the Data & Analytics organization, reporting to the VP of Data & Analytics. This is a founding role that will be pivotal in shaping and implementing robust data management and governance frameworks and ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of our data. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to align data governance strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements while maximizing the value of our data and the productivity of our workforce.
What You’ll Do
Develop, implement, and maintain data policies for data acquisition, access, compliance, retention, and data lifecycle management
Define and implement data ownership and stewardship roles Educate data stewards and consumers on how to adopt data policies. Operationalize data governance processes in partnership with data stewards across the company
Develop and implement data quality standards and practices Develop and manage data quality metrics and reporting mechanisms
Oversee the development and maintenance of a centralized business glossary and metadata repository
Develop our Master Data Management (MDM) strategy for critical data assets to increase business value through data
Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders (Legal, BT, Security, Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering, etc.) to identify data management needs and requirements
Develop and lead a cross-functional data governance council to drive data management and governance initiatives and decision-making
Define and monitor key operational metrics for data governance and management. Regularly report on the effectiveness of data management and governance efforts to the executive sponsor/steering committee and the Data Management Council.
Conduct periodic reviews of the data ecosystem to ensure data policy is being appropriately applied
Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data management and governance. Find opportunities for leveraging new technologies and methodologies to enhance data governance capabilities and increase efficiency
What You’ll Need
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management, data governance, or related roles in a complex organization, coupled with advanced knowledge and understanding of data management principles, practices, technologies, and industry standards
Preferred Qualifications
Solid understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and data security principles
Proficiency in data management tools and technologies (e.g., data cataloging, metadata management, data lineage)
Experience with regulatory compliance related to data privacy and protection
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to actively engage and influence partners at all levels
Excellent leadership and program management skills, with a proven track record of delivery
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and drive results
Proven experience scaling data operations in a public SaaS company to $1 billion in revenue, demonstrating expertise in establishing robust governance frameworks and driving data strategy at scale
Experience in a mid-sized company or in establishing a new data management and governance function from the ground up
Certifications in data management and governance programs
Travel Requirements and Working Conditions
Up to 20% travel
Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office
How You’ll Be Rewarded
✅ Salary range in the US: $177,000.00 - $284,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
