One of our team’s key focuses is to empower teams throughout Zillow to understand and leverage customer data effectively. This data is essential on all sides of the home buying, selling, and rental process. At Zillow, we have a significant opportunity to streamline how customer data is discovered, analyzed, and ultimately acted upon in production. This is an essential ingredient of our Super App strategy and enables streamlined and high value add experiences for our users.


By leveraging customer data, teams across Zillow can effectively stitch together the user experience, enable AI-driven use cases, and work at a higher velocity. This data helps create cohesion across buyer, renter, and agent experiences. This empowers Zillow customers to smoothly navigate the experience of finding their dream home or investment property.

About the role

As the Sr. Director of Customer Data, you will lead the team responsible for tying together Zillow’s core customer data and enabling teams across the company to leverage it. Users of the data span product managers, software developers, AI scientists, and business teams. You will take ownership of the technical strategy to deliver a streamlined experience around creating and consuming customer data.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a strategic customer data roadmap that aligns with the company’s strategic vision

  • Leading the design, implementation, and operation of a Customer Data platform that spans synthesize, analysis, and consumption of that data.

  • Working closely with engineer partners on Zillow’s Data Platform, Data Science, and AI teams

  • Working closely with product management and business units to align our technical strategy with business needs

  • Balancing near term delivery with building towards a scalable long term solution

  • Helping to accelerate the pace at which our AI teams can operate and deliver user-facing AI products

  • Leading an effective team through high standards, skill enhancement, clear expectations, and feedback.

  • Maintaining focus on effective operational practices, applying insightful measurement to quantify outcomes, maintaining budget and key results.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $280,700.00 - $448,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • 10-12 years of experience leading data and software development teams.

  • Proven success in implementing a wide-reaching data strategy at an enterprise scale.

  • Proven experience in owning production data products with significant cross-team dependencies 

  • Experience managing teams driving either AI or AI-adjacent technology (e.g. real-time data infrastructure)

  • Business insight: Deep understanding of the industry, competitive landscape, and needs of the business. Ability to translate business requirements into solutions that drive value.

  • Technical expertise: Deep knowledge of innovative data technologies, data infrastructures, data platforms, data warehousing, ETL tools.
